The first-ever KanOkCo Regional Christian Homeschool Volleyball Tournament was held last year in Wichita. Sponsored by the new KanOkCo Christian Homeschool Athletic Association, the tournament was held October 24-25. Participating teams included the Smoky Valley Home Educators, Salina; Manhattan CHIEF; Wichita Angels; Wichita Warriors; Derby Invasion; Metro Academy Mavericks, Kansas City, Kansas; Kansas City, Missouri East Lions; Kansas City, Missouri North Knights; Omaha, Nebraska Warriors; and the Bellevue, Nebraska Mustangs.
After two days of fun, fellowship, and top quality competition, the final four were: first place: Metro Academy Mavericks; second place: Kansas City East Lions; third place: Omaha Warriors; and fourth place: Kansas City North Knights. Three of the top four teams moved on to play at the NCHAA National Homeschool Volleyball Tournament in Nebraska. It was agreed that KanOkCo will host the tournament again next year the third weekend in October. If there are 12 or more teams, the tournament will divide into to divisions. This year's tournment director was Dennis Roemer, Gove, KS. Kenny Collins, Wichita, was in charge of setting up the tournament and securing officials. A KanOkCo Homeschool Volleyball Camp is being planned for next summer, with Pam Sullivan, Metro Academy coach, as director.
KanOkCo is now gearing up for the KanOkCo Regional Christian Homeschool basketball Tournament, scheduled for March 5-6, 2004 at McPherson, Kansas. This tournament will only be open to KanOkCo member teams from Kansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado. A limited "Team KanOkCo" program is being planned for this tournament, for the purpose of giving an opportunity to play, to homeschool students from Kansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado. To be eligible, students will have to meet the tournament eligibility rules, plus not be a member of any other homeschool, public school, or Christian school team. There are no guarantees of openings on teams. Students will be assigned if member teams have short rosters and request additional players. The sign-up deadline will be January 31, 2004.
