Homeschool Manual
Beginning late April 2003, CHECK's 3rd Edition of its Kansas Homeschool Manual will be available for ordering. This year we will all have a CD version which will include back issues of the CHECK News since December 2000. Including tax and postage, the print version is $15.00 and the CD version is $8.00.
The manual's purpose is to serve as a ready reference for those beginning their homeschool journey as well as those considering homeschooling. The manual also includes sections of interest for the experienced homeschoolers who are expanding into the junior and senior high years.
The manual includes information on the legal setting for home-schooling in Kansas, advice and resources for starting your homeschool or launching into the junior and senior high years, a listing of many curriculum options, resources for teaching children with special needs, information on CHECK and local support groups in Kansas, and much more.
The manual provides a current listing (early 2003) of CHECK support groups around the state as well as more detailed information about Kansas' two largest support groups, the Mid-West Parent Educators (formally Johnson County Parent Educators) of the Kansas City area and the Teaching Parents Association of Wichita. Both organizations host major homeschool conferences during the spring of each year. CHECK strongly encourages Kansas homeschooling families to be involved with their local support groups.
Our thanks: The first edition of the manual was put together in 1998 by the Johnson County Parent Educators largely through the work of Nancy Moneymaker. The second and now third editions has been revised significantly, largely through the labors of Kathy Middleton under the direction of CHECK's Board.
