Twenty-one high school and home-schooled students in Sedgwick, Butler and Harvey counties were named National Merit semifinalists Sept. 14:

Bishop Carroll -- Sarah Dorn.

Derby High -- Lindsey Hume and Margaret Tran.

East High -- Tyler Danaver, Kaitlin Henderson, Whitney Lohrenz, William Wheeler and Elisabeth Wright.

Hesston High -- Crystal Prieb.

Hesston home-schooled -- Zack Bryant.

Independent School -- Fazal Abbas, Eric Manda and Matthew Mandelbaum.

Kapaun Mount Carmel -- Brett Brown, Tanner Hesse and Abigail Searle.

Leon home-schooled -- Nathan Ruhl.

Maize High -- Laura Krone.

Newton High -- Benjamin Histand.

Rose Hill home-schooled -- Benjamin Thome.

Southeast High -- Dane Saksa.
