Kansas boasts two first-rate conferences, one in the Kansas City area sponsored by the Mid-west Parent Educators (MPE, formally JCPE) and a second in the Wichita area sponsored by the Teaching Parents Association.
On Friday and Saturday, April 22 - 23, Midwest Parent Educators will host their 2005 Conference and Curriculum Fair at the Overland Park Convention Center. The Conference runs from 9:00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. on Friday, and 8:00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on Saturday, and features an exhibitors' hall (with over 100 booths) and a wide variety of workshops.
This year's keynote speaker is Doug Phillips of Vision Forum, a ministry designed to communicate a vision for the restoration of the Christian family and the rebuilding of culture for the glory of God. Featured speakers include Mary Hood (author of "The Relaxed Home Schooler"), Kathie Morrissey (founder of "The Courtship Connection"), Scott Somerville, HSLDA Staff Attorney and his wife Marcia (author of "Tapestry of Grace"). Our Children's Program, run by Children's Conferences International, will return for both days and is open to children ages 6 - 12.
Registration is $30 per person (spouses free) for those who pre-register before April 8; $40 at the door. Children over 13 years are free if accompanied by parent. The conference is free for MPE members. Vendor passes are $10 per person (spouses free) at the door, valid for both days. For more information about the MPE Conference and/or registration forms, visit their website at www.mpekc.org or call 913-397-9506.
Make sure the first weekend of June is cleared for the 2005 TPA Conference! This year’s keynote speakers will be Lisa Whelchel and Andrew Pudewa. As always, there will be a host of excellent workshops on a multitude of topics from teaching the fine arts to incorporating technology into your classroom. For those of you who can’t be in two places at once, tapes of each workshop will be made available. The exhibitor hall will be filled with resources from companies and colleges across the country. The Adventures in Character program will once again entertain and teach your children while you in turn are being educated by those homeschoolers who have gone before you. The Conference is truly a treasure trove of knowledge, experience, and passion for education and raising children to their full potential.
The 2005 Conference will take place on June 3-4 at the Century II Convention Center. For more details and the very latest updates, visit our website: www.wichitahomeschool.org.
